大内塗漆器

西の京都とうたわれた昔を今に伝える大内塗漆器は、
渋い大内朱に優雅な秋草と、
大内菱を中心に純金箔をちりばめた霞が美しく
調和して、独特の風情をかもし出しております。

大内人形
大内氏十七代大内弘世が、朝家より迎えた夫人の、
京都を思う憂情を慰めるために,都風情の人形に地方の特色を加えて製作を初めたのが大内人形で、
男女和合の心が自ら湧き、一家平和の守護神とされて
広く愛用されております.


近年代用漆を使用したものが,出廻っておりますが,
当製作所では、厳選された檜、桂、桜、とち、ちない等、を生地に純本漆を使用し、昔ながらの数多い工程を経て、すべて手作りの古来伝統美を今に伝えて、高い評価を得ております。

昭和  1年   広島市にて誕生
昭和 20年   広島で原爆に遭い山口に来る
昭和 20年   桑原大内塗り大内人形製作所に入所 桑原 宇之助に師事
昭和 34年   皇太子殿下(現天皇陛下)御成婚記念品を献上

大内塗・大内人形英文説明書

 Ouchi lacquer products, the more you use, the more you enjoy, are the

Heritage of Ouchi culture in Middle Ages.

 

Many processes that require the excellent artisans’ skills and many days, even months.

 Ouchi lacquer products have 9 majour processes to produce.

 Before starting the first process, zelkova, cherry tree and the like are put in the drying stage for

4 to 5 years. Then they are cut into pieces and formed to the shapes of their products.

 Next process is the base coating process that consists of three sub-processes of lacquer painting,

drying and sanding. And the middle coating and final coating process that have the sarthree


sub-processes follow. From the base coating through the final coating, painting, drying and sanding


operations are repeated over and over again, thus the original wood pieces turn out to be fine Ouchi

products.

 Natural lacquer combines oxygen and moisture in the air to dry, and this drying process affects


very much the product quality. Therefore, in the drying process that usually requires 12 to 24 hours,

lacquer painted wood pieces are put in the small wooden store room called “Muro”, where the

temperature and humidity are well controlled.

 After the final coating process, then cultured patterns are painted, in some cases, gold leaf, silver

leaf are sticked on. Thus the traditional Ouchi lacquer products that have been handed down from

Ouchi cultures in the Mddle Ages are produced.

 Ouchi lacquer wares have the distinctive taste, which represents the culture of the Western Kyoto

In the Middle Ages, with the harmony of the Ouchi vermilion based flowering plants in fall and the


haze composed of the centered Ouchi lozenges with the scattered gold leaf.

 

Ouchi doll

 Hiroyo Ouchi, the twenty-four master of the Ouchi that governed Chugoku province patronaged

an artisan , who had been making a “Gosho doll”, to comfort the governor’s wife from imperial family

in Kyoto as she had been yearning for Kyoto life so much. He modified the “Gosho doll” by

introducing the Chugoku district characteristics and named it Ouchi doll. The Ouchi doll, actually tow

pieces of dolls, one is a husband and the other is a wife, whose gentle faces remind us of harmonious

peace between the married couple, has become so popular in Japan today that many familys Keep this

as the guardian god in the house.

 

Kuwabara Ouchi lacquer ware and doll manufacturing company that keeps the highest

Reputation in meeting customers’ expectation.

 The first master of this Kuwabara manufacturing company researched the ancient Ouchi lacquer

products and successfully reproduced them today. Since that time we have devoted our time to

inproving the product quality. and consequently we were awarded the excellent products prizes

at many exhibitions including the Prefectural Governor’s Prize at the second Art Craft Exhibition.


  And more over, Teihou, the second master of this Kuwabara manufacturing company had the honor

  Of presenting his painted Ouchi doll to the Emperor Heisei as his marriage cerebration.

   How to keep and take care of.

  Please keep them in the dust free area and shelter from the direct sunlight. A glazed case or shelf

  is recommend to store them.

   When cleaning, please remove the dirt on the products with warm water and wipe them with soft

   cloth. Then leave them in the well-ventilated area sheltering from the direct sunlight for a half day

   or so before putting them back.
